Lemon Balm Tea

Lemon balm tea is said to be good for indigestion and reducing anxiety and insomnia. Its scientific name "Melissa officinalis" comes from the Greek word "Melissa" for "honey" because bees are attracted to its blossoms (1).

When preparing this tea, cover while steeping so the essential oils are not lost to air with evaporating water. Another option is to pour hot water over the leaves, add cool water to quench, and drink.

The primary components from the leaves found in tea extractions are citral and polyphenol compounds (2).
